VIZO Ninja HS Notebook Cooler
|
|
VIZO is a company well known for their ingenuity in designing technology for practical solutions in today’s high tech business and entertainment demands. The VIZO Ninja HS NCL-251-BK is one of their latest designs for temperature control of laptop computers. The Ninja HS follows a line of quality laptop coolers that bear the Ninja name - but does the HS carry its weight compared to its predecessors?
Design
The Ninja HS housing is made of aluminum - just like all the other Ninja coolers - and sports two 70mm fans the same as well. One gleaming difference is that the Ninja HS provides a three port USB 2.0 hub which neither the Ninja nor the Ninja II offered. The fans still draw their power from the USB port on the laptop and the USB hub provides enough power to run a Canon LIDE 60 flatbed scanner, a Logitech MX 518 mouse and my VIZO Mirrorbox memory card reader all at the same time.

Setup and Usage
The fans on the Ninja HS are adjustable two ways. You can move the entire rack forward or back by loosening the thumbscrews on the side rails and adjust the rack where you need cooling the most. You can also slide each individual fan left or right to put the fans exactly where they’re needed for the best cooling effect.
In my testing I found that the Ninja HS does an excellent job of keeping the laptop cool. The adjustable fans are extremely quiet and won't causing you any headaches from loud droning noise - which follows suit with the other Ninja products we’ve tested.

Drawbacks
The angle of the Ninja HS helps relieve wrist stress during long typing sessions. The only drawback is that the height is not adjustable so the angle is set and cannot be lowered. The only other complaint I have is that the edges of the Ninja HS and the stops that hold the laptop from sliding off are very sharp and they scratched the bottom of my laptop. I have also got a small cut on my finger while loading the Ninja HS into my backpack. Since then I have decided not to carry it in my backpack anymore because I am afraid it may tear the thin material inside.
VIZO Ninja HS Notebook Cooler
I like the Ninja HS for its built-in USB hub which is very useful with a notebook computer; however, I would recommend to the designers to maybe put a thin rubber strip along the edges and maybe some rubber feet across the stops at the bottom. This one gets kudos for the USB hub but not so much as a traveling companion. Compared to the Ninja and the Ninja II, I would probably go with the Ninja II for its portability to take on the road and the Ninja HS for its USB hub to use mostly at home.
Pros: USB 2.0 3 port hub, adjustable fans do an excellent job with cooling notebooks, powered by USB.
Cons: Non adjustable typing angle, sharp edges.
