Vizio's VBR100 Blu-Ray Player is coming in July, but only to Wal-Mart

Earlier this week a Vizio representative let it slip that the Vizio VBR100 Blu-ray player, which was announced at CES and was expected to have a sub-$200 price tag, is now scheduled to come to Wal-mart only in July.

According to John Schindler, Vizio’s new product development VP, Wal-mart shoppers around the nation can expect a brand spankin' new BD-Live ready player (although this will require the optional 1GB+ USB thumbdrive attached) for only $188. Not yet below the magical $100 price point, but an entry price below $200 will undercut Blu-Ray player offerings from major rivals like Sony, Pioneer and Panasonic.

The VBR100 will feature built-in audio decoding for Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TruHD and DTS, 7.1 audio output via HDMI (sorry, no analog outputs for those of you not yet on the HDMI bandwagon) and support for Jpegs and MP3 playback.

Vizio will follow up in the November/December time frame by offering the VBR110 Blu-ray player with similar features and price point for the rest of its retail customers, Schindler said.
