Design

The around-the-ear design of the AX Pro is common for many types of headphones, and especially common for those with multiple drivers in each earcup. This design makes the best use of the limited space provided by headphones to create a realistic 360 degree sound field. Each of the earcups is covered in a soft felt material, and Tritton has even included an extra set of faux leather pads that can be switched out if you prefer the feel of leather-type material.

An inline audio controller allows you to adjust the volume of each channel (front, center, rear and subwoofer), the master volume and also the microphone volume. The volume levels are digitally controlled, meaning they have preset volume levels that can be raised or lowered to a certain pre-set level. The inline microphone allows you to voice chat as you are gaming, and the audio controller allows you to mute the microphone whenever it is not being used.

The AX Pro uses a total of 8 separate drivers to create the 3D surround sound effect, with each ear cup housing three 30mm drivers for front, center and rear channels and one 40mm driver for the subwoofer channel.

The included external 5.1 audio controller provides hardware-based Dolby Digital decoding, so that you don’t need to rely on a PC or your gaming console to shoulder the load of processing the audio. This feature, along with the myriad of analog and digital audio connections, makes the AX Pro an extremely versatile headset. It can be used for watching DVD movies, gaming on the PC, PS2, PS3, XBOX, XBOX360, and listening to music on any other devices with an optical digital input.
