Microsoft Releases Free Antivirus PC Software

With surprisingly little fanfare, Microsoft announced today that its new computer antivirus software can be downloaded from its website for free at http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/.

The free antivirus software is dubbed "Microsoft Security Essentials", and it has been available in a beta test version since June. Similar to other antivirus software, it features the capability to download daily updates daily to stay current with the latest malware, trojans and and malicious programs. Also, according to Microsoft, the software won't make computers run slower.
