Donate One Laptop per Child and Get One in Return

Starting today, Nov. 12th, residents of the U.S. and Canada will have the opportunity to participate in a unique offer from the The One Laptop Per Child organization. Today marks the beginning of the chance to purchase two XO laptops for $399 - one to be given to a child in the developing world, the other to keep or donate to a local charity.
The $399 offer is called "Give 1 Get 1" and will be available for the next two weeks. The XO laptops are durable laptops designed specifically for educating youth and for connecting kids in developing nations who have never worked with computers.
The One Laptop Per Child Organization has been slow to ramp up bulk orders for the XO laptops from many developing country governments. So the group has started the "Give 1 Get 1" offer in hopes that the holiday season will spur sales from charitable American and Canadian citizens. Also included for each U.S. based order is one free year of T-Mobile hotspot wireless access. If you order by Nov. 26th, the group has promised that the XO laptops will be delivered by Christmas.
The energy-efficient XO computers have high-resolution screens, cameras, and wireless communication capability built in. They use a free open-source operating system and contain no moving parts—no CD or DVD drive, and no hard drive. They use 1GB flash memory and a low-power processor to keep energy requirements to a minimum. They can be powered by solar energy, a foot pump, or pull-string powered chargers, and the screen is readable in full sunlight.
If you are interested I would encourage you to check out the Give 1 Get 1 site, and I would love to hear from anyone who does decide to participate in the offer.
