Barnes & Noble joins e-Book reader market with the Nook

Barnes & Noble Inc. said today that it plans to release a $259 e-book reader, which it will begin shipping in late November, and will name the device the "Nook".
The device joins the increasingly crowded list of competitors to Amazon.com's $259 Kindle. The Nook, which runs on Google's Android operating system, features a 6-inch e-paper display from E-Ink Corp. for e-book and newspaper reading. A smaller color-touch screen is also used to control the device and for typing. It features 3G cellphone and Wi-Fi connections to download books from the retailer's online bookstore.
Barnes & Noble listed the device on its Web site for sale with a pre-order price of $259. According to the site, the color touchscreen device will use the same e-ink technology that powers the Kindle, will have 3GB of internal memory and will run exclusively on AT&T’s 3G wireless network.
